This Grenache Blanc exudes confidence with every sip, revealing a rich and robust flavor profile. Its dense texture is complemented by a voluptuous blend of deep fruit flavors and a complex, lasting finish that leaves a memorable impression on the palate.

In 2023 we had a long cool and wet year. It meant that at Alisal Vineyard, in upper Ojai, we were not sure of the levels of ripeness that could be achieved. If the harvest season was going to stay cool some varieties would struggle to reach optimal sugars and acidities. That was the case for the grenache blanc that was carrying a big crop and needed thinning. The first pick was used for the sparkling wine leaving a smaller crop that could reach higher levels of intensity. The intention was to explore the multiple facets a varietal has to offer when you capture it at different times. Grenache blanc can be fresh and flowery or if you wait longer it becomes more fruity and rich, almost creamy. In working with the varietal and the site for the first time it was enticing to find its range. The varietal is mostly found in northern Spain and southern France. It makes very opulent wines. It is often blended to achieve balance and complexity. The remaining crop gained rapidly a lot of power. The resulting wine was immediately noticed for its intense texture of soft and weighty cream followed by a gritty and almost bitter finish. On a whim, we decided to start serving it on tap at 34F and pushing it with CO2. The resulting temperature and light carbonation were somewhat of a revelation. The wine was showing signs of early oxidation, as the varietal is known for, and with its newfound balance was truly finding a new personality. A magical one where the weight was balanced by the acidity and freshness of the bubbles. After many tastings, it was decided it would be its final incarnation, the white magic goddess of the south.
